Liturgical Affairs Ministry

The liturgy is the highest form of public worship of God through the Mystical Body of Christ as performed in Catholic mass celebrations.  The principal activities of liturgical worship include the Eucharistic Sacrifice, the Sacraments, the Liturgy of the Hours, and the Sacramentals as authorized by the Church.  Anything related to the liturgy is under the jurisdiction of the Liturgical Affairs Ministry.  Being so, this ministry, fondly called LAM is also one of the busiest, if not the busiest.

Headed by Emma I. Entao, (past Coordinators were:  Johnny Villa(U), Noli Villafuerte and Lui Magpayo while incoming Coordinator is Wina de Vera) the LAM aims to:  (1) to help encourage members of the community to build a spiritual relationship with God; (2) to promote among the liturgical sub-ministries and organizations the growth and deepening of their commitment to service for the enhancement of worship; (3) to provide orderly, animated and meaningful liturgical celebrations and parish activities; and (4) to encourage devotion to the Eucharist, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and St. Andrew our Patron Saint.

There are several sub-ministries that comprise the LAM.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion    (EMHC). This sub-ministry aims to serve the community by distributing the Body and Blood of Christ to the congregation during the liturgical service; to give  Holy Communion to the sick and aged parishioners in their homes and assisting them to pray; and to assist in the imposition & reposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The coordinator in 2008 is Rico Camus.

Lectors and Commentators (LC). This sub-ministry aims to focus the attention of the congregation upon the sacred action or text, inviting their prayerful understanding; to share in the mission of proclaiming the Scripture during the Liturgy of the Word; to greet and lead the community in response to readings and prayers and to make announcements by encouraging the parishioners to be active participants. The Coordinator for 2008 is Wilma Palafox.

Music. This sub-ministry aims to bring a deepening universal awareness that all music for the liturgy must serve the needs of the assembled people who praise the Lord; to bring parishioners closer to God through the beautiful expression of the Word; to move the assembly to pray, and to give life to the cultural expression of the community. The Coordinator for 2008 is Emma Entao.

Greeters &  Collectors. This sub-ministry aims to  provide and exercise a true liturgical service of hospitality; to be heralds of Christ by offering themselves as “doors” to the living temple of God by acting as hosts, in behalf of the parish, by meeting, greeting and welcoming the assembly, thus exemplifying the warmth of holy fellowship; to facilitate the task of prayer and action by sincere cordiality; and to handle the collections and/or offerings during liturgical services. The 2008 OIC  is Beth Bustamante. Lourdes Chiang(U) also served as an OIC until her untimely passing.

Altar Servers. This sub-ministry’s duties are to carry the lighted candles / “cirriales” during the entrance procession or in other parts of the mass when candles are used, and to assist the Priest during the rite of Asperges; to take charge in carrying the thurible and incense boat in incensing the altar, the Gospel Book, Sacred Host, etc; to assist the Priest with the books and sacred vessels, bread, wine and water during the offertory; and to assist the Priest and the EMHC during Holy Communion.   The Coordinators for 2008 is Carlo Manalo and Ronald “Bunny” Callejos.

The LAM plays a very big part in the spiritual life of our parish community.  Indeed, without the dedicated service of the LAM and all its committed serving members, our parish activities would not be carried out orderly.  As the ministry assists in leading the community to spiritual growth, so does the parish encourage members of the community to take an active part in glorifying God through parish service.  The LAM looks forward to having you as members of its sub-ministries.
