Social Services Ministry

Shepherding Sub-ministry
Our Shepherding community composed of 612 active members continued with our weekly Wednesday evening meetings throughout this quarter.

Our membership, which we anticipate will increase once again this year by roughly 10% (to about 675), is currently divided among 27 flocks, each headed by a Shepherd/Shepherdess and a coordinator.

As in previous years, the Shepherding community meets every Wednesday evening, and regularly follows the pre-set schedule of Holy Mass every first Wednesday; Catechism and Bible Study every second and third Wednesday; and Prayer Meeting every fourth Wednesday of every month.

We have started to distribute copies of the Holy Bible to our new members. Majority of the new members are parents and beneficiaries of our Feeding and Scholarship programs.

We are currently distributing to qualified members a Family Benefits Booklet courtesy of Caritas Manila. The Booklet will be used to log and track all social services benefits received by the individual from the parish and vicariate.
We have started acting as a distribution center for NFA rice. Starting in May 2008, 40 sacks (cavans) of NFA rice are made available to our Parish by Caritas for individual sale to qualified Shepherding members and other parishioners at a maximum price of P18.25 per kilo. Sale of rice is held every Tuesday and Friday mornings, and remittance of payments is made weekly.

Paeskwela ni San Andres - Scholarship Program
The Scholarship Program has received 80 applications for scholarships for school year 2008-2009. There are 67 students who qualified this year, out of which 27 have been assigned sponsorships.

Hapag-Asa - Feeding Program
This year’s Feeding Program commenced last March 24, 2008, and will run for six months until the end of September 2008.
Sixty (60) undernourished children with ages ranging from two to seven years old have been selected to participate in this year’s program. As in previous years, we have a constant stream of regular donors and sponsors from within the Parish who generously provide the nutritious meals, vitamins, and medicines for the benefit of the children who are fed daily from Monday to Friday.

Pabahay ni San Andres - Housing Program
The initial 10 housing beneficiaries who were identified last year are still currently being serviced and monitored by the housing team. Following the completion of these initial projects, the program will continue to identify and assist a new set of housing beneficiaries.

Puso’t Piso - Savings Program
This program continues with no new developments. The new members of the Shepherding community are being initiated into the Program. This is a Savings Program into which members of the Shepherding Community are initiated into.

Livelihood Skills and Training Program
During the initial months of this year, we aimed at promoting and revitalizing interest among the Shepherding community in this program so that new and better ideas for livelihood projects can be started again this year to complement previous years’ skills training programs. In this connection, five representatives attended the Training for Trainors seminar on livelihood projects by the Archdiocese of Manila - Ecology held last April 26, 2008 at Don Bosco Parish.
