On Wednesday, the 14th of September, at 8:00 o’clock in the evening, the sound of funeral bell was heard around the village.

St. Andrew parishioners gathered in church for a prayer liturgy for the souls who died violently in recent months. The congregation lit up candles around the altar; offered white roses for peace and hope. The solemn rite was officiated by Rev. Msgr. Dennis Odiver so beautifully.

At present, there are signs that frighten us, that worry us.  We have seen the scenario of terror and danger happening in our country.  We are aware of the power of the evil of drug trafficking and consumption that spans not only in our country but in the whole world.

A film clip was shown to us during the assembly.  It showed wherever the road of drug production and trafficking passes, and that included large sectors of the United States – it is as if an evil monster had its hand on the country and had corrupted the people.  We already have adequate idea of the power of this evil of drug trafficking and consumption that exist in our country, which leads to violence and endangers the future of the entire nation.

This is a sign of the times that should be an urgent challenge to us, especially as Christians.  That God is the first thing necessary in order to withstand all the afflictions of this time.  The important thing is that a need for healing exists; that we can understand again somehow what redemption means.  This can also be an opportunity to become aware of one another, to encounter one another, to help each other, and to go out of ourselves.  It is a time for reconciliation, a time for conversion.

So it seems important for us not to see the negative side which we must be keenly aware of.  Instead, we must see all the opportunities for good that are there; the hopes, the new possibilities for human still exist.  So then, we need for interior conversion to happen.  Part of this conversion is putting God in first place again.. we must, so  to speak,  allow Him to work within our society..

That changes everything else.
