Opening the doors to Christianity

“Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever

does not believe will be condemned.” (cf. Mark 6:6)

February 5, 2017 marks the opening of the Jubilee Year, 50 years anniversary of the erection of Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish and the opening of the Holy Door (Porta Sancta) of the Parish. On this day too, the Legion of Mary assisted in the baptism of seven children ages of 3 to 12 years old. This has been one of the apostolate works of the Legion of Mary – to bring families closer to God by inviting them to receive the sacraments and the many graces we can receive through this. The solemn ceremony took place in the Oratory where our Parish Priest, Msgr. Dennis Odiver officiated the baptism of these seven children. He reminded their parents and god-parents about the importance of the sacraments and that money should not be a reason to celebrate the sacraments. Baptism, is the first step in being followers of Jesus, the gateway to Christianity. It is the manifestation of our Christian faith – to be baptized, confirmed, to partake in the celebration of the Sunday Masses, receive the Holy Communion, go to Confession, get married in church or take the Holy Orders, and be anointed when we are in danger. Just like other sacraments, it should be received as a grace from God as they were instituted by Christ to be closer to him and help us in our salvation.
