“Lahat ng tao ay isinilang na mabuti; ang drug addiction ay isang sakit.” This story is about an overweight person who had been bullied and called names like ‘taba’, ‘baboy’ ad experienced many school transfers before he was brought to the U. S. where he fell into the company of drug-users. For him, this seemed to be the solution to all problems of peer rejection. He learned to use ‘shabu’ (methamphetamine) for 11 years.

Saying ‘I do’ again… and again… and again…February is the month of “Pag-ibig”, or now popularly connoted as “Febibig”. As our parish celebrates this month as Jubilee for Couples, a Thanksgiving Mass and Renewal of Marriage Vows was held last Saturday, February 18, 2017.120 couples registered to say ‘Ido’ again on this sweet and special occasion. The Thanksgiving mass was presided by our pastor, Rev. Msgr. Dennis Odiver.

11th of February, in observance of the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, we participated in a Healing Mass and Anointing of the sick,” celebrated by Msgr. Dennis Odiver at 6:30am and 12:15nn.

Jesus Christ himself had performed many miracles involving the sick and he also took this opportunity to forgive the sins of the ailing person. Our state of being in sin affects the well-being of the body and visiting a physical doctor is not enough to make us whole. We need God’s forgiveness in the sacrament of Reconciliation to make us complete again. Before Christ ascended into heaven he had delegated this power to his disciples. Paul, is one among them.

Our Lady of Lourdes is a Roman Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated in honor of the Marian apparitions that reportedly occurred in 1858 in the vicinity of Lourdes in France. The first of these is the apparition of 11 February 1858, when 14-year old Bernadette Soubirous told her mother that a “lady” spoke to her in the cave of Massabielle (a mile from the town) while she was gathering firewood with her sister and a friend. Similar apparitions of the alleged “Lady” were reported on seventeen occasions that year, until the climax revelation of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception took place.

In 1862, Pope Pius IX authorized Bishop Bertrand-Sévère Laurence to permit the veneration of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lourdes. On 3 July 1876, the same Pontiff officially granted a Canonical Coronation to the image that used to be in the courtyard of what is now part of the Rosary Basilica. The image of Our Lady of Lourdes has been widely copied and reproduced, often displayed in shrines and homes, often in garden landscapes. Bernadette was later canonized as a Catholic saint.
